BUDLEIGH Salterton Lions Club at the weekend celebrated its 30th birthday with a barn dance and buffet.

BUDLEIGH Salterton Lions Club at the weekend celebrated its 30th birthday with a barn dance and buffet.

Over the years the club has raised 750,000 for charity thanks to the tireless fundraising efforts by it members.

The club's first meeting was on April 15 1980, with 28 members - two of who are still members today.

Lions Club spokesman Geoff Paver said the club was grateful to the unsung heroes, such as the members' wives, for working tirelessly behind the scenes.

"Not forgetting the tremendous support we always get from the people of our area, and visitors," he said.

Budleigh Lions is celebrating its milestone birthday with a 30th charter anniversary dinner and dance at East Devon Golf Club on Saturday June 19.
