BUDLEIGH Salterton's Temple Methodist Church broke with tradition when on Advent Sunday it held a production of a new Christmas musical instead of its usual evening service.

The production of The Inn Crowd, by Roger Jones, brought together a cast of 30 singers and musicians to present this version of the nativity story as seen through the eyes of Sam and Debbie - the Bethlehem innkeeper and his wife - played by Tony and Vera Lees.

The congregation was invited to join in singing Christmas carols and hymns.

A Temple Methodist Church spokesman said: "The whole production was much appreciated by the large congregation drawn from across the Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton circuit - as was the cast.

"It was repeated the following Sunday afternoon at the Littlemead Church in Exmouth."
