Archant

Crowds braved the rain and wind for the Budleigh Salterton carnival which returned to the town after more than 20 years.

The return of Budleigh Salterton’s illuminated carnival has been hailed a success by organisers.

Rain and wind did not stop the crowds turning out for the procession – the first in Budleigh for more than 20 years.

It is hoped that the carnival can become a permanent part of the East Devon circuit which would guarantee floats from across the region visiting on a yearly basis.

A spokesman for the carnival organising team said: “A really good amount was collected in the buckets, which will go some way towards next year’s event.

“We are still waiting for some more money to come in so we don’t have a final amount as yet.”

Organiser also thanked the Lions Club of Budleigh Salterton for providing stewards, running a barbecue and organising a bingo the night before.

They also thanked volunteer stewards and bucket collectors.

The winning entry was ‘Snowflake Royalty’ from Colyton and the Jeff Tenney Cup was presented to the team by Mary Tenney.
