A Budleigh Salterton author has launched her first title in a series of adult saga books, which look at the problems a school faces in Edwardian Torquay.
The Red Cliffs Ragged School series, written by Linda Finlay, follows the story of a Devon-based school as a developer seeks to turn the land it sits on into hotels.
In the first book, Monday’s Child, a girl is found abandoned on a beach in Torquay, alone apart from her mother’s body beside her.
After being rendered silent by the experience, the girl is given the name Monday and taken to the Red Cliffs Ragged School.
Budleigh author Linda said: “I am pleased with the book because it is a departure from the other books that I have done before.
“It is the first in the series, which means I can develop the characters.
“I am moving forward into the Edwardian age, which means I can bring in the suffrage movement.”
The novel was published through Penguin Books on Thursday, October 20.
