A panto held in Budleigh Salterton has raised £3,000 for a project to build a new library at St Peter’s Primary School.

Budleigh Salterton’s pirate-themed panto has raised vital funds for the town’s school library project.

Drama group Prior Commitment played to three packed audiences at the Public Hall raising £3,000 for St Peter’s Primary School’s new library in the process.

Steve Andrews, who wrote the script for the comedy adaptation, said the project showed ‘Budleigh at its best’.

He added: “The talent and hard work of the cast and backstage colleagues were unsurpassed.

“A special mention must be made of the pirates themselves. These were eight girls as young as seven and all of them performed magnificently.”

St Peter’s Head teacher Steve Hitchcock said: “The panto was wonderful and also a great opportunity for some of our pupils to take part in it.

“To raise £3,000 is staggering. I would like to say a huge thanks to Steve Andrews, and everyone involved giving time and skill towards our new library project.”
