BUDLEIGH Salterton Cricket Club, this year celebrating its 150th year of existence, is hoping to raise funds for the creation of a second pitch and artificial surface for use by a growing colts section.Club secretary Kevin Curran told The Journal this week: "We are particularly proud of our achievement in encouraging young people - both boys and girls - to enjoy the game and this year we will be running five junior sides, ages 9-14."On August Bank Holiday, we will be hosting a Devon versus Somerset game. "New members are the lifeblood of any organisation and if you wish to join the club please contact the membership secretary." The fee for individuals is £15, for families £25 and vice-presidents a minimum of £30.There is a separate application for colts' membership. Contact membership secretary Simon Leat at 18 Honeypark Road, Budleigh Salterton, EX9 6EF. Cheques should be made payable to Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club, said Mr Curran."Anyone wishing to make a donation to the club or to know more about it, please contact me on (01395) 442103," he said.l The first match report on the club was in Trewmans Exeter Flying Post of August 12, 1858.
