The Budleigh Hub tries to do many things for many communities in our locality.
Most of the time these ‘things’ revolve around a physical activity such as a low impact fitness class or a support group such as ‘Let’s Talk Sport’.
These activities draw people together under the heading of a particular event. Their purpose is not so much the event but the actual getting together.
Socialisation is the key. It is the focus of everything we do. After most activities have finished attention is drawn to the tea and biscuits. People who didn’t know one another before talk, exchange experiences and find harmony. It is no exaggeration to say that loneliness is a killer.
Poor social connections are as bad as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, increases your blood pressure and raises your risk of a stroke. Yet simple interventions such as a cuppa prevent loneliness.
But we cannot solve the ill of loneliness on our own. That is why on May 21 we are coming together with other local organisations in the Budleigh Town Hall from 10am to 12 to showcase what we and others can do to help you. This free event will be run under current Covid restrictions with the kind assistance of Budleigh Town Council staff.
Attendees include: The Hub; The Budleigh Community Workshop Trust; Budleigh Lions; Hospiscare; Westbank Community Health and Care; Home Instead Senior Care; The League of Friend of Budleigh Hospital; Budleigh in Bloom; Budleigh Medical Practice; Budleigh Runners; Probus, Ian Crook Wealth Management; Launchpad, The Library; Atlas Care; Heron Home Support and Devon Carers.
The Budleigh Community Workshop will have its doors open. You can see how renovations have progressed, have a tour and have that important cuppa. Their volunteers will be on hand to explain how you can get involved and help this fantastic community resource.
Why not come along and find out what’s going on in your community?
