A POPULAR meal time assistant at Brixington Primary School is hanging up her cooking gloves in an academic environment for the last time.

Margaret Newman who has worked for the school for more than 30 years is leaving tomorrow.

Gill Laws, a governor and former teacher at Brixington Primary, said: "She is a popular lady, particularly among the younger children who she likes to concentrate on at mealtimes.

"It will be strange not to see her face at the school anymore. I remember not long after the school opened in 1969, I used to teach her daughter."

Bridget Britton, a colleague of Margaret's, said: "She is such a popular figure.

"She is a very loyal person and it is a tremendous achievement to have worked there for such a long time.

"Margaret, no doubt will have seen quite a lot of changes at the school over the years including different head teachers. She has loved her job.
