Brixington Pre-school says goodbye to dedicated staff

A party has been held to mark the retirement of three nursery staff who have collectively given 65 years of service to Brixington Pre-school.
Over the years, scores of children have been looked after and helped by Jacky Baker, deputy manager, of Green Park Road, supervisor Sue Laye, of Valley Way, and assistant Lesley Sanderson, of Chaucer Rise.
The trio has also raised thousands of pounds for the charity funded pre–school and its youngsters by organising bingo nights, cake sales, sponsored bike rides and other events that parents and children could get involved in.
The manager at Brixington Pre-school, Liz Lake, 39, of Clyst Heath, Exeter, said the retirements will be great loss to the school.
She said: “They have gone above and beyond what was expected of them and the whole school community will really miss them.”
Bev O’Connor, 39, of Coleridge Close, sent her son Harry to the school in 2010. She was thankful for all their hard work: “They are part of our lives. They gave our children the best start possible.”
Jacky has helped at the school for 20 years while Lesley has committed herself to Brixington Pre–school for 15 years.
Sue, who has worked at the school for around 30 years, said she was ‘sad’ to leave. She said: “It is the only thing I have done in my life and I have had a wonderful time doing it. I am going to miss everyone and I wish the whole school the best of luck in the future.”
