A BRIXINGTON pensioner, who now has to walk 20 minutes to catch a bus because of route changes, has called on fellow passengers to lobby Stagecoach. From Monday this week several routes were changed and Mrs Jennifer Moreby, 62, of Lime Grove, says that because of back problems she now faces a walk up a steep hill just to catch a bus into town. The old 57 service travelled up Brixington Lane, turned left into Jubilee Drive, down Spiders Lane before looping back on to Brixington Lane. But the new route now turns right into Jubilee Drive, down Dinan Way, Parkside Drive, Birchwood Road then Churchill Road before finally rejoining Brixington Drive.Mrs Moreby, said: "I have quite bad back problems, and its worse walking up hills."Before it would take me just two minutes to get to the bus stop. "Now I would have to walk up Lime Grove, quite a steep hill to the nearest bus stop."If enough people write to Stagecoach we could get this changed back."A Mr Tate of Priddis Close also complained, and said: "There was an excellent service from the stop at Jubilee Drive, Priddis Close which is used by many."Now the nearest stop will be Pines Road shops, meaning residents in Priddis Close, Bankside and adjacent roads will have to trek up the hill if they wish to get into town - in the winter."Apparently this service is being stopped on a commercial basis. What's the point of having a bus pass if there's not a bus to catch?"I suggest local residents are asked their opinion. They weren't prior to the change."Graham Bailey, Stagecoach Devon's resource manager said: "A thorough review of the services in Exmouth was undertaken, in full consultation with Devon County Council, to improve reliability ... and ensure the future viability of the network."He said the changes were because service 99 was withdrawn - and most of the route is now part of the revised 57 and 98 services:"Service 57 has been revised to serve the Parkside Drive, Birchwood Road and Churchill Road ... "Service 98 now replaced Service 99 along St Johns Road and Dinan Way. Both of these areas have had frequencies increased."Service changes can be confusing and there will be a period of time while customers get used to the new network. We will, of course, be reviewing the impact of these changes and all customer feedback will be borne in mind.
