The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning along the River Otter after 50mm of rain in the past 24 hours.

A statement posted on its website this morning said ‘flooding is expected iminently’ after a band of heavy rain overnight.

The warning stretches from Fenny Bridges, where river levels are said to be rising, to Budleigh Salterton.

The Environment Agency say riverside properties and roads at Gosford, Cadhay, Harpford, Colaton Raleigh are all at risk, along with potential flooding at the A3052 at Newton Poppleford, and the A376 at Budleigh Salterton.

A spokesman said the showers are expected to decrease into this evening, and the situation is improving, but confirmed the flood warnings along the River Otter remain in place.
