The Royal Navy’s bomb disposal squad was scrambled yesterday (Wednesday) after an unidentified cylinder was washed up on Sandy Bay beach.
The squad, supported by the coastguard, carried out a controlled explosion of the cylinder.
The five-foot torpedo-like object was spotted by a member of the public.
