A Budleigh great-grandmother, who has celebrated her 100th birthday, puts her longevity down to healthy living.
Edna Millard, of Moorhaven, celebrated her birthday on Monday, having had a big party the previous day with 77 family and friends, including a granddaughter who flew over from Canada.
She received a birthday card from the Queen, and on the day had a family tea with her three daughters – Carol, Sylvia and Jean – and their husbands.
Edna was married to Norman in 1939, with their daughters born in 1940, 1942 and 1948, before his untimely death in 1968.
She now has seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Edna, who worked as a beauty consultant for Max Factor, continues to be active, having been on four cruise holidays since 2010.
She also enjoys games of virtual bowling on the Nintendo Wii.
When asked for the secret of her longevity, she put it down to: “Never smoking, drinking only on birthdays and Christmas Day and eating sensibly.”
Son-in-law Peter Miller said: “As far as she is concerned her family is a very important part of her life, and she is never more happy than when she has her three little girls around her.
“She is a truly exceptional lady.”
Edna has been a tenant at her East Devon District Council-managed property for nearly 25 years, and also received a bouquet of flowers from the council to mark the occasion.
