East Devon MP Hugo Swire has been working with local councillors to support this year's Exmouth Festival.

This follows a request from Cllr Darryl Nicholas the town's Deputy Mayor who approached Mr Swire asking for help in finding extra money for special projects.

Mr Swire has written to Cllr's Eileen Wragg, Brenda Taylor and Bernard Hughes. He has received a commitment of £2,000 from Conservative Cllr Bernard Hughes.

Hugo Swire said: "Darryl Nicholas and the Festival committee are planning an expanded festival over nine days in May and I am very supportive of their plans. Our County Councillors have some discretionary funds to spend locally and I am delighted that Bernard Hughes has already agreed to contribute. I very much hope that the others will also help out. The aim is to make the town look and feel more vibrant than ever before which will be great for local people and local business."

When Cllr Bernard Hughes was approached he said: "I am very happy to contribute to what I hope will be an exciting Festival and happy occasion.
