ORGANISERS are putting the finishing touches to the sixth Exton Festival, which will raise money for local causes - but they are calling for volunteers. The festival began in 2002 as a jubilee celebration - and since then the event has been held to raise money for local charities, good causes and community projects. This year the festival is being held on Friday, July 4, to Saturday, July 5, and will open with the festival 'horse racing'.The event will be held in the village hall at 7pm with horses at the starting gate for the first race at 7.30pm.Spectators are invited to bring their picnic hampers while watching the festivities. On the Saturday there will be the traditional Festival Fete with a barbecue in the recreation field, which promises to be an afternoon of fun, games, gift stalls, children's entertainment and competitions. In 2007 £2,450 was raised and distributed, with a further £3,000 earmarked for local projects, and Ada Follett, on behalf of the Exton Festival Committee, hopes to have similar success this year. She said: "The festival's success is due entirely to the generous support and help from the community."As always, volunteers are needed to assist in manning gift stalls, competitions and serving refreshments. An appeal is also being made for donations of gifts and prizes for the many stalls and competitions."Volunteers and those offering donations, help or gifts, should contact Eileen Pratt on (01392) 877917.
