Celebrity businessman Duncan Bannatyne believes one of his Topsham protégés has an even brighter future ahead of him.

The Journal revealed recently how Geoff Bowen’s wine-making business Pebblebed Vineyard had blossomed since his appearance on the BBC’s Dragons’ Den programme five years ago.

Geoff is remembered for drying up midway through his pitch and causing a row between Dragons Deborah Meaden and Bannatyne.

But Geoff had the last laugh as Bannatyne stumped up £60,000 to expand the business - and he hasn’t looked back since.

More than 30,000 viewers logged onto the Pebblebed Vineyard website soon after the show to buy Geoff’s sparkling wines.

Bannatyne, 66, who has a wide variety of business interests, expressed his confidence in Geoff.

He said: “Geoff is a very dedicated and hard-working businessman and I’m really glad that he is doing so well. I wish him every success in the future.”
