St Joseph’s RC Primary in Exmouth is the first school in Devon to become part of an Arsenal football initiative aimed at helping children improve their ball skills.

Arsenal Soccer Schools is an after school club for around 25 pupils which not only helps children improve as players, but to work better in a team.

Everyone who attends the after school club received a new Workbook and coin collection.

And as a way of rewarding those that have shown the most improvement Arsenal Soccer Schools have a selection of skills competitions for the children to complete.

Gold, silver and bronze coins are then awarded dependent upon improvement and score.

The skills competition concentrates on passing, turning, shooting, speedshot, speed and match play.

Pupil Zac Brown achieved the fastest time on the ‘turning test’ while Jonty Wright won a signed football.

Adam Hayman, head coach said: “The children have really embraced this new challenge and it is great to be able to offer rewards for the children’s hard work and improvement.

“The workbook gives the children an extra sense of direction and builds the relationship between the club and home.”

Arsenal Soccer Schools run courses in Exmouth, Ottery St Mary, Axminster, Uplyme, Cullompton, Crediton and Exeter.
