Back our libraries

PUBLISHED: 07:00 16 May 2014

I have just finished my Devon Libraries consultation form (something we all should do this month).

I had to admire the creative writing skills of whoever constructs these ‘consultations’.

Devon County Council is forced to cut back everywhere – we all know that – but these forms are so well written that of the seven proposals to cut back our library the only possible answers are “Yes, I approve,” and “No! I don’t!”

Nowhere on these ‘consultation’ papers is there room for any disagreement.

We are so lucky in Budleigh – and Exmouth – to have good libraries staffed by professionals and volunteers.

I want to maintain them - not cripple them.

Surely in a ‘consultation’ paper there should be room for an opinion that runs counter to the council’s already made-up minds?

Even a flawed paper still means that those who wish to support our library should submit their own consultation paper – your own sort of a confidence vote in our local well-loved library.
