This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Axe Vale Show. Here, Suzanne McFadzean, who is on the organising committee, highlights what visitors can look forward to in June.
The Axe Vale Show is a fantastic weekend for all, that celebrates the best of the local area whilst raising money for local good causes.
Located just outside Axminster, the show expects to welcome record crowds to help celebrate 25 years of local fundraising for Axminster.
The Axe Vale Show is a charity, staffed entirely by volunteers, who willingly give their time to organise this two-day event that raises money for local worthy causes.
Last year's grants of some £30,000 were awarded to applicants. These included the Flamingo Pool, Axminster Scouts, drama, cricket, gymnastics and community projects to name just a few.
The show has a lot to offer and this year it continues to expand to include new and exciting activities and attractions that we hope will appeal to all age groups. As well as the magnificent food marquee, there are arts, crafts, toys, collectables, antiques, interesting and beautiful floral displays.
Numerous stalls selling everything from beeswax food wraps and other recyclable items to woven bags will be present.
New this year, the owners of Atkins Auctions are kindly sponsoring the Vintage, Retro and Antiques marquee - come along and have your jewellery valued or enter a completion to guess the auction value of a selection of items.
National celebrity Anne Swithinbank, a trained horticulturist, freelance gardening national broadcaster and writer will be giving a talk and answering your gardening questions on Saturday at 2pm.
Flower arranging experts, Sarah Broom and Angela Brooke-Smith, will be demonstrating how to arrange flowers in natural and beautiful styles.
New in 2019 is the Photography Competition for all age groups - this is being hosted by the Axminster Photography Group - for entry criteria and the application process, please refer to the show's website.
The Food Court - Every year the Axe Vale Show attracts many traders selling delicious and varied foods and drinks.
In 2019, the selection has been expanded and a new food court area will be established allowing a broader choice of foods, including Thai specialities, fish and chips, venison burgers, wood-fired burgers to mention just a few .
Well behaved dogs are also welcome and there will be a dog show on both days - judged by local dog breeder and trainer, Sharon Foxhall.
Compete to win the Ferne Animal Sanctuary Cup for the best dog in the show.
Entry criteria can be found on the website. In addition, come along and watch Debonair Dogz demonstrate good dog grooming techniques, answer your questions and solve any quick fix issues.
This year there is an amazing range of entertainment. We are thrilled to have Xtreme Falconry joining us once again with a large selection of eagles, hawks, falcons, owls and vultures.
Team M.A.D. are the UK's No 1 mountain bike tricks, stunts and skills team and will amaze with their flips, spins, hops and balancing tricks.
The Farmyard Show will tell a story of Jemima the Puddle Duck and her team of animal friends.
Around the showground, you will be able to chat with Sheridan the Sheepdog and also join in with Rainbow Gecko blowing and playing with enormous colourful bubbles.
The bandstand will host a full schedule of music and a Leroc dance demonstration - get up and join in or just sit back and enjoy the show.
Parking at the showground is free and there is also a complimentary shuttle bus service from Millwey Rise, Trinity Square and Axminster Railway Station. The bus timetable is on the website.
Discounted tickets are already on sale via the website, so don't delay - why not give them as a gift to friends and family and plan to make it a big day out?
Or, if you are on holiday, come and experience the fun of a traditional event - plenty to keep everybody entertained, fed and watered, whilst not forgetting the opportunity for some serious retail therapy.
Online tickets are terrific value at £10 for adults, only £2 for children aged 5-16, and under fives are free!
In 2019, the Axe Vale Show team aims to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill - please help us by bringing your own disposable mugs and cups as well as putting your waste in the right bins!
