An Exmouth tearoom is celebrating after achieving awards success with its scones.

Bumble and Bee, based in the Manor Gardens, was named runner-up in the Exeter professional heats of the Devon Life Best Scone in Devon Award.

The contest, held at Froginwell Vineyard, was in aid of MacMillan nurses, with a judging panel including a chef working for Michelin-starred Michael Caines. Bumble and Bee co-owner Debra Quine said: “Considering the Exeter heats covered all of Exeter and the East of Devon area, we are extremely chuffed to have come in the top three runners-up.

“For our scones to be judged and praised by a professional chef working for the Michelin star chef Micheal Caines is a real honour.”

Bumble and Bee previously won praise for its scones in 2014, when it received a prestigious two-star award from the Guild of Fine Foods Great Taste Awards, and went on to finish second in the national Golden Fork Awards.

Bumble and Bee also received national praise last week, when an article in The Guardian named it as a ‘Great UK Tearoom’.
