I really am fed up with Mr Ellis promoting his dream on non-movement in the progress of the human race. Why doesn't he go and bury his head in the estuary? What gives him the right to tell people what they have to put up with? Or even where to live? Estuary: dictionary definition is the "wide, lower, tidal part of a river".When Exmouth railway was built, the river estuary was changed forever, creating land on which is built the area known as the Colonies and most of Exmouth town centre. We gained an area where there is now a lorry park, railway and bus station, boat yard and a diving centre, all of which are eyesores, especially the lorry park. The fitness centre needs updating, not that the council can afford that. Although the council can waste 3 million pounds on a car park to service a town centre that is decaying before our eyes.ASDA is not being built on the estuary, it is being built on the eyesores mentioned above and I think it will look good. It will provide jobs and money to this town centre, attracting the holidaymakers to spend in the centre. If, as several of your writers suggest, they build an ASDA, the town becomes a ghost town, let them tell us where an ASDA has been closed through urban decay.Good on you Mrs Stevens, for spotting all those shop closures, something Mr Ellis does not consider as long as he is alright Jack but, Mrs Stevens, you missed Curry's and the shop that took over which closed, and now Stead and Simpson has closure signs. All these provide sad tales of loss of earnings, homes and a lifestyle and we have not even started the credit crunch yet. How many more are tottering? Good job the government closed the Job Centre - there aren't any jobs to get anyway.Have you noticed, Mr Ellis, the British have very little left? Rolls Royce, Jaguar, Abbey and numerous other big businesses are all now owned abroad. Perhaps Exmouth's unemployed can send you their mortgage payments and bills to pay, Mr Ellis.Bob Jasper.Name and address supplied.
