ASDA will cost the town jobs

I AM puzzled by two recent letters which both claim that ASDA would revitalise our town. At present, within five minutes' walk around The Strand and Magnolia Centre, we have three butcher's, a fishmonger and two greengrocer's. Will these survive the arrival of ASDA? Are shoppers really likely to wander around the town to see what small shops offer after shopping at an ASDA which sells everything? Aren't the small shops likely to become further charity shops? Won't this increase rather than reduce unemployment here in Exmouth? Carol Mulholland, (via email).
