It seems obvious to me reading the comments recently in the Exmouth Journal that local councillors have something against Tesco's plans to expand and improve their store in Exmouth when compared with their love for Asda and now Lidl.We are entering a period of probable recession and, if these councillors believe they are going to encourage any firm to relocate to Exmouth to build offices in this area, they are, in my opinion, way out of touch, yet they ignore the fact that Tesco's plans are real and now and would increase jobs by well over 100.Comments are made one minute that any increase to Tesco's size would be detrimental to the centre of Exmouth and the shops operating there, yet in the next comment councillors say and vote in favour of a Lidl store close to the existing Tesco store, so what will this out-of-town new store not do to the shops in Exmouth that Tesco will?Irrespective of what name is on any new store in the centre of Exmouth, it will, without doubt, cause severe damage to the shops in Exmouth centre, spreading out to possibly the Exeter Road shops as well butchers, bakers and any shop selling goods which could be bought in Asda. So what gives the councillors in Exmouth or elsewhere the right to support the building of new stores such as Asda and Lidl, but not the extension to an existing store as Tesco? I for one sincerely hope that, when the plans for ASDA are spelt out in greater detail, it will prove to the residents of Ex mouth just how poorly designed this new store is and how it will badly affect the traffic flow in and around Exmouth centre. I hope then more residents will stand up and get more involved in improving what is a poorly designed ASDA store and maybe stop it being a reality altogether.Come on residents of Exmouth, ask of your councillors what is so different between an expanded Tesco store and the jobs it would bring now and the difference between this and two new stores such as Asda and Lidl which will be close by?
