An Italian ice cream parlour has scooped £400 for the Exmouth RNLI - thanks to a flavour competition.
It is the second time Antonio’s, based at The Strand, has run the design-a-new-ice-cream-flavour competition.
Katie Burke, a seven-year-old Beacon Primary School pupil, had it licked with her strawberry shortcake flavour ice cream, winning more than 1,600 customer votes.
Tony Badcott, owner of Antonio’s, said Katie’s new flavour beat last year’s winning entry – Bassets Farm Primary School pupil Darcy Greenland’s doughnut delight.
The entrepreneur said: “To beat the £375 Darcy raised last year with her doughnut delight flavour was fantastic.”
For every ice cream sold, Tony donates 25 pence to the RNLI.
He is already gearing up for next year’s event, inviting youngsters and schools to find new flavours.
Tony continued: “My mum, Maria, and dad, Harry, who are no longer with us, were both life-long members of the RNLI. The competition is my way of keeping involved with a brilliant charity that is close to my heart. The RNLI does so much for Exmouth.
“Next year’s competition will be launched in February half-term and I hope we can get two new primary schools involved with the charity.”
