Children are invited to wear fancy dress to the show, and there is a special Mad Hatter’s Tea Party for them after one performance

The Exmouth Players will be presenting “Alice!” at The Blackmore Theatre, Bicton Street, Exmouth, as part of their Christmas production this year.

There are matinee performances only on Saturday December 8, Sunday 9, Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 at 2.30pm. Evening performances are Tuesday 11 to Friday 14 December at 7.30pm.

This is a family-orientated version of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-glass, adapted and directed by Nick Lawrence, with original music by Ian D Crew, who is the Musical Director. Many of the much-loved characters from the famous books by Lewis Carroll will be appearing to play croquet, dance the lobster quadrille, join the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and the caucus race, and end up in court in search of the Queen of Hearts’ Tarts.

Lewis Carroll’s love of paradox and nonsense and his fondness for small children led to the writing of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in 1865, a story which he began while rowing the daughters of the College Dean, H G Liddell, (Lorina, Alice and Edith) up the Thames for a picnic near Binsey. A sequel, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There appeared in 1871.

Alice would very much like all children to dress up when attending any of the performances. Girls are invited to turn up as Alice. Boys may turn up as the Mad Hatter.

Alice also invites all children aged between three and 12 years who are attending the matinee performance on Sunday, December 9 to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party immediately following this performance. Alice asks you to bring your own packed tea as she is not sure what the Mad Hatter may have available. You will then enjoy your tea with Alice, the Mad Hatter and some other members of the cast. Mums and dads – don’t forget to bring your cameras.
