Money spent by shoppers in a Budleigh Salterton shop has been donated to a day care centre for elderly residents.

Age Concern, now based at the Budleigh Salterton Health and Wellbeing Hub, have received a donation of nearly £2,800 through the Co-op’s local community fund.

The scheme sees one per cent of money spent in the High Street store’s own-brand products donated to a cause chosen by the shop.

Dr Graham Taylor, chair of the trustees at Age Concern, said: “It is way above anything we expected, and our heartfelt thanks go to all for the amazing support.

“We applaud the generosity of the Coop and the company’s sense of community and are delighted that the grant goes a considerable way towards improving the facilities we offer.

“I would like to convey my personal appreciation of the services at the store in Budleigh Salterton. The staff are outstanding.”

A cheque for £2,783.65 was presented to Age Concern manager Janet Pester and trustee councillor Alan Dent.
