LYMPSTONE Commando Base's Royal Marine Band travelled to Taunton last week to lead a march of members of 40 Commando after a tour of Afghanistan.Large crowds cheered members of the unit at a civic reception granting them freedom of the city. The servicemen returned home in April following a six-month stay in Helmand Province. Marines stopped at Taunton's memorial to remember fallen colleagues, including 40 Commando members Lieutenant John Thornton, Marine David Marsh and Corporal Damian Mulvihill, all killed on the tour of duty.
