I write concerning the rather silly looking stainless steel 1950s' style portable building which is currently situated on a trailer in the lorry park adjacent to the railway station. I see it every time I travel in and out of Exmouth on the train, and wonder whether it is used for anything or is just left derelict. However, I do remember that it was used as part of a float in the Exmouth carnival. While passing it on the train today I had an idea. Maybe it could be moored about 500 metres out to sea from the Steamer Steps at Budleigh Salterton and used by people who are keen all-year-round swimmers.I could envisage it being fitted out with comfortable chairs and a hot drinks facility with a sunbathing platform on the roof. For winter swimmers, a Scandinavian-style sauna could be installed so that people could get really warmed up before swimming back.If it proved successful it could become a swimmers' clubhouse, and the appearance could be enhanced. Maybe 'gothic regency' style features could be added to the windows and roof and painted orange, yellow and turquoise.Simon Fuller,10 Elizabeth Road, Exmouth.
