A seafront gem

PUBLISHED: 07:00 26 July 2013

My uncle was the late, much-missed architect Mr Len E Ellis. His father, also an architect, designed and had built the clock tower on Exmouth seafront.

He gave this gem to the people of Exmouth, as far as he knew, in perpetuity.

I lived with Uncle Len and his wife for many years before I moved to Budleigh – and I know that he and his father would spin in their graves if they could see what has happened, and is happening now, to their beloved Exmouth.

I just hope that the clock tower is not in the list of family silver to be sold off – on the other hand, it’s hardly big enough to build a block of flats on – is it?
