A removal that insults our fallen

PUBLISHED: 07:00 25 April 2014

I have been tending the Exmouth war memorial for over two years – people have seen me replacing the weather-worn crosses with new, making sure they stood upright.

Also, two of our male Poppy Appeal organisers have been checking the wreaths to make sure they were secure and any adjustments done if necessary.

We have been doing this on an almost daily basis, even throughout the storms of the winter, be it wet or dry right up to the present.

I am both disgusted and angry to find that all the wreaths have been removed, except for the eight that were left owing to the intervention of one of the Royal British Legion committee members who was in the town at the time. All 80-plus wreaths were destroyed on the same day as being removed!

This to me is like desecrating a grave, and an insult to our fallen and their families and the good people of Exmouth who have always supported this worthy cause.
