A lack of respect

I’m disappointed with the complete lack of respect shown by Ben Bradshaw MP in criticising Exeter Chiefs’ decision to observe a minute’s silence ahead of today’s game in honour of Lady Thatcher.
I can fully understand different policitical views being expressed, and it fortunate for all those who choose to speak out against our former premier that they live a society that allows freedom of speech. Had the likes of Michael Foot come to power in the 1980s, that may not have been the case.
Very few politicians shape history in the way Lady Thatcher did – she was charismatic and had a clear vision on what she felt was right for the country, with the courage of her convictions to take action.
I left school in the late 1970s and can clearly recall the massive debt built up by Callaghan’s Labour government, high inflation, and the trade unions seeking to undermine democracy.
By making difficult and unpopular decisions Maggie made this country great again. History could teach us a lesson here as the Coalition seeks to repair the damage done from another Labour-inspired mess.
We are all considerably better off today thanks to the billions of pounds we have got back from the EU rebate that Maggie single-handedly negotiated. Those who choose to complain about the cost of her funeral would do well to remember this.
