Anyone who has been around Exmouth of late could not have failed to notice how many businesses are closing down. This situation can only get worse over the next coming years due to the economic situation we all find ourselves in. However, it good to read that Woolworth is about to be taken over by Iceland - this will be much welcomed by most people in Exmouth. The Lidl store on the Eurotech site is again great news for the town, not only good competition for the Tesco stores, but good for jobs in this bad period. I wonder if those people who are against the Exe estuary redevelopment still believe that this should not happen? Unless this town of ours has some real financial injection, it will simply die. Let's be honest, there will be no other financial help other than this development coming our way. We need as much help as possible to give our young people leaving school with little job prospects. A job is better than no job at all. With or without ASDA, this town will decline unless it is redeveloped. Anyone who shops in Tesco cannot help but notice what a monopoly it has over this town. Supermarkets are here to stay, whether you like them or hate them. The more competition the better it can be for us all.Bill Heath,Former town councillor.
