Abbeyfield Shandford – the charity care home in Budleigh Salterton – is moving nearer to being able to renovate its summerhouse.

It follows the donation of a cheque for £515.

Ian Nancollas – a database officer at the fundraising department at the Abbeyfield Society’s head office in St Albans – has recently completed a 100-mile bicycle ride to raise funds for the group.

He raised a total of £1,030, which has been divided between two of Abbeyfield’s South West care homes.

Raine Pym, Abbeyfield Shandford’s administrator, said that the care home in Budleigh was ‘fortunate’ to have been one of those chosen for the donation.

“The proceeds will go towards the renovation of our summerhouse, which we have big plans for, so that it will be up and running for the summer,” she said.

Plans for the summer house include a coastal theme, and a vintage shop selling old-fashioned sweets.
