Organisers of Hospiscare's first Midnight Walk from Budleigh Saterton to Exmouth, held on June 14, are amazed that the 600 women walkers have raised £40,000 with more still to come. Fundraiser Louise Beeken was hoping to raise £25,000 in the first year of the event, and has been overwhelmed by the generosity and ingenuity of those who took part. "The largest individual donation came from Sandra Webb in Moretonhampstead, who got several of her friends together, and raised £425 herself, as Hospiscare had cared for her mother. All the walkers and their supporters have been fantastic, with a great atmosphere on the night and continuing good wishes and support." The charity would also like to confirm that they will definitely hold a similar event next year, as they have been so pleased with the support of local people and businesses. £40,000 will pay for over 450 visits to patients in their own homes from Hospiscare's nurse specialists, who make nearly 15,000 visits in Exeter, mid and east Devon every year, giving dedicated support to families. If you still have funds to hand in from the Midnight Walk, please call the fundraising team on (01392) 688020 or see www.hospiscare.co.uk.
