Nearly 2,000 passenger journeys were made as vintage buses returned to the roads for a special running day.

On Sunday, August 31, 11 historic vehicles took to the streets in and around Exmouth as part of the Devon General Society’s Devon General Remembered event, recreating 1960s bus routes.

Free services operated from Imperial Road to destinations including Budleigh Salterton, Littleham, Lympstone, and Woodbury, while an open-top bus offered a local sightseeing tour.

Paul Jenkins, secretary of the Devon General Society, said: "We were delighted with the turnout for our event, with many buses departing with full loads.

"We would like to thank everyone who travelled on our buses, the bus owners, and our great team of volunteers who made it all happen.

"We also appreciate the support we received from Exmouth Town Council, East Devon District Council, and Stagecoach South West.

"We hope everyone had an enjoyable day experiencing bus travel as it used to be."

The Devon General Society was established in 1982 to promote interest in the Devon General Omnibus and Touring Company and its successors.

Today, it has over 200 members, and those interested in joining can visit the Devon General website.
