The Exmouth Museum and Heritage Centre, together with The Salvation Army and the Battle of Britain project, will be hosting a further two talks by local historian and model maker, Dominic Pound.
The next talk on September 11, 2025, will cover the August 14-17 fighting and will also focus on some new personalities from both the Luftwaffe and RAF perspective.
Tickets are £3 each (available on the night at the museum) with £1 going to museum funds, £1 to Salvation Army and £1 to Battle of Britain project.
Starting at 7pm, The Salvation Army Hall in Sheppards Row will be hosting the event, and refreshments will be provided for a suggested donation of £1.50.
The Battle of Britain was a major air campaign fought over southern England during the summer and autumn of 1940.
The battle was the first decisive battle in history fought entirely in the air.
The talk will focus on a history of RAF Exeter (formerly RAF Clyst Honiton, now Exeter Airport), its early history and its Battle of Britain history along with details of some of the men and the squadrons namely 213, 87 and 601 Squadrons based there at the time.
There is also a historic and unique audio of a son interviewing his father, who witnessed a German plane circling and machine-gunning Exmouth.
The museum will be open after the talk to allow visitors to visit the museum and see the World War II displays and the developing Battle of Britain model project.
During the 2025 season, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, there will be a display of model planes on display in The Cottage Gallery of the museum.
