The £1.6-million phase involved the installation of 150 metres of steel sheet piling, extending vital defences from the earlier works to the Old Lifeboat slipway.
The government-backed project, delivered by East Devon District Council (EDDC), is intended to strengthen key infrastructure and safeguard nearby homes and businesses.
The total cost of both completed phases has so far reached £3 million, split between local and national funding.
Cllr Geoff Jung, for EDDC, praised the team’s dedication: “Thanks to the commitment of our officers and contractors, working evenings and weekends, the project was completed faster and more cost-effectively. We’re grateful to residents and businesses for their patience during this necessary disruption.”
With construction now complete, the promenade path, cycle lane, and Queens Drive have reopened. Temporary fencing remains around grassed areas until new seed has taken root.
Looking ahead, planning for Phase Three is underway. EDDC is encouraging local residents and businesses to contribute their views to help shape the final look and features of the improved seawall area.
