Exmouth RNLI took on Exmouth Freemasons in a game of cricket on Pole Sands on Sunday (July 21).
The event was held to raise money for Exmouth RNLI, Sailability at Exmouth Sailing Club and Exmouth NCI. It had been scheduled for Saturday 20, but was postponed because of the bad weather.
The lifeboat volunteers won by a close three runs and were presented with a trophy that had been specially designed and made from driftwood and recycled timber by members of The Men's Shed Exmouth.
Jason Luff from the RNLI Exmouth volunteer crew said: "The game was great fun and also aimed to raise awareness of safety at sea. We are grateful to Exmouth Freemasons for all the hard work they put in to ensure that the event took place safely.’"
Nick Smith, Exmouth Freemasons’ team captain said: "Exmouth beach front offers a great opportunity to show off how our community can work together. With the help and advice of the RNLI, Exe Sailing Club, our Harbour Authorities, NCI and Exmouth Marina, discussions were held on how we might make this happen.
"As Freemasons from Exmouth, we think that whilst this event is not without risk, if properly organised it gives local good causes an amazing opportunity to say, 'we are here and would like to welcome you'."
The amount raised has not been announced yet.
