Exmouth fish & chip shop Krispies came to the rescue when a wedding caterer pulled out just hours before the ceremony.

The chippy pulled out all the stops to cook 110 portions of fish and chips and deliver them to the party at the Exmouth Wedding Venue on Saturday, June 8.

Guests described their freshly cooked meals as ‘incredible’, ‘amazing’ and ‘loads better than normal wedding food’.

Krispies director Kelly Barnes told the Journal the ‘frantic’ bride had called her on Friday evening - the day before the event.

She said: “She was getting married at the Exmouth Wedding Venue and had booked a private caterer, but he was poorly and had to cancel. She wanted to know if there was anything we could do.

“It wasn’t a problem for us to cater for 110 people. We do a lot with Stuart Line Cruises, catering for big groups on Friday evenings. This event was 3pm on a Saturday afternoon so it was actually a lot calmer than a busy Friday night.

“I was so proud of our team. When you’re in a position to help someone, why wouldn’t you?”

Krispies posted photos on Facebook of the fish and chips being delivered to the venue, and the guests tucking into their food.

The post attracted dozens of comments from friends and relatives of the bride, along with members of the public.

One person said:  "Absolutely saved the day! You were all amazing. 110 meals and all still hot on delivery and all served to everyone at their tables. Thank you so much. Not all heroes wear capes!

Another said: "Food was incredible freshly cooked and delicious, delivered by happy smiling team."

A third said: "Well done Krispies team - fantastic to see the sense of community coming to the rescue!"
