A car washing session in torrential rain at Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club raised £982 towards the cost of new training nets.
Players from the club braved the elements to hose and polish more than £100 cars on Saturday, March 23.
The car wash was among a series of events being held to raise the £40,000 needed for the fixed training nets at the cricket club's new home at The Holt, East Budleigh Road. The nets will be used for junior, senior and disability cricket.
The next fundraiser will be a sponsored cycle ride by player Adam Jones this Friday, March 29. He will take to the saddle of a static bike at 9am at The Holt and ride throughout the day, with other players taking turns to cycle alongside him on a second fixed set of wheels.
Adam said: “I’ve played for the club for as long as I can remember – when we moved to our new site we had to leave our fixed training nets behind and it’s vital that we get nets in place at our new home. To do my bit I’m going to cycle 138 miles, the distance of cycling to all the main clubs in the second team division for 2024. It’s going to be tough!”
There will also be a table-top sale of craftwork at the club from 11am until 2pm, and the entertainment will continue with a light dinner being served at the club and live music from band K2 from 8.30pm.
As part of the fundraising drive there will be an Easter egg hunt at The Holt on Sunday, March 31, starting at 9.45am, for £2 per participant.
