Over the last few weeks I’ve been providing updates on our work to replace an 800-metre section of sewer from Plumb Park housing estate to Maer Lane, just outside the sewage treatment works.

Our teams have been battling with the wet weather we’ve had recently which has made this challenging work even more difficult. Despite this, we’ve laid nearly all of this this new stretch of sewer up to Maer Lane. Once the final part has been laid and the new pipe is connected to the existing network, we’ll turn our attention to the remaining pipework from Maer Lane into the treatment works.

As this section is in a better condition than the pipe we’re replacing, we’ll be relining the pipe, which involves creating a new pipe within the existing one. This new lining will be as strong and offer as much resilience as a replacement pipe would, without the added time and disruption a new pipe would take to lay.

Despite the very wet weather we’ve experienced, we’re pleased with the steady progress our teams have made. While we may be slightly behind where we hoped to be because of the weather, we continue to work hard to complete this work to prevent future bursts in the area. I’ll continue to provide regular updates.
