An Otterton man who was found carrying a kitchen knife and an extendable baton in Exmouth has been jailed.

Exeter Magistrates Court heard that Leon Dennis, aged 23, of Higher Maunders Hill in Otterton, was carrying the weapons while he was in the public car park of the Devoncourt Hotel on November 3 last year.

He pleaded guilty to possessing offensive weapons in a public place and was sentenced to four months in prison. He was also ordered to pay a £154 surcharge when he is released.

Magistrates said the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified, and court documents showed that Dennis had a 'flagrant disregard' for court orders.

An order was also made for the baton and knife to be 'forfeited and destroyed'.
