New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to three of East Devon’s establishments, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.

Friends Of Axecliff Golf Club Ltd, a restaurant, cafe or canteen at Axecliff Golf Club, Axmouth, Seaton was handed a three-out-of-five rating after assessment on January 30.

And Indian Ocean, a takeaway at 36 Exeter Road, Exmouth was given a score of four on February 6.

First and Last Inn, a pub, bar or nightclub at First And Last Inn, 10 Church Street, Exmouth was given a four out of five score after assessment on February 1, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

It means that of East Devon's 141 pubs, bars and nightclubs with ratings, 91 (65%) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.

Ratings are a snapshot of the standards of food hygiene found at the time of inspection. It is the responsibility of the business to comply with food hygiene law at all times.

The scheme gives businesses a rating from 5 to 0 which is displayed at their premises and online.

4 – hygiene standards are good

3 – hygiene standards are generally satisfactory

2 – some improvement is necessary

1 – major improvement is necessary

0 – urgent improvement is required
