Honiton U3A looks back on successful 30th anniversary year

Honiton u3a will hold its annual general meeting at The Beehive on March 20 to commemorate their successes.

Snice the start of April 2023, the group has seen an influx of 60 fresh faces.

The group engaged in a variety of activities throughout the year including 10 speaker-led events at The Beehive.

The group also enjoyed two celebratory gatherings marking their 30th anniversary and Christmas.

The organisations groups include everything from walking and nature appreciation, to current affairs and history, and more.

Speakers at The Beehive have entertained members with a range of talks, from life on a hospital ward and garden design to filming Blue Peter and Devon’s most eccentric buildings.

One of 2023's new members , Johnny Jonas, said: "I think it’s amazing what U3A provides - such a wide range of subjects and interests - and afternoons of entertainment galore."

Honiton u3a also hosted multiple one-off events including a First Aid session imparting CPR knowledge and defibrillator awareness.

Newcomers were extended an invite to an exclusive meeting with the committee and activity group leaders seeking potential members.

This year, the consideration of kickstarting a Pickleball group, one of the nation's fastest-emerging sports was on the table.

The U3A members also participate in the monthly Coffee and Chat gatherings at a local coffee shop and have been seen engaging in board games during winter afternoons.

A spokesperson for the group said: "This has been a very successful year.

"We are grateful to the Committee and to our Activity Group Leaders who do so much to put on such a diverse and interesting programme.

"We hope many more people will decide to join us in 2024."

Honiton u3a’s annual general meeting is due to be held at 2pm on March 20 at The Beehive for members only.

The next open meeting is scheduled for 2pm on April 17, with a talk by Helen Baggott on "From Bombs to Bournville".
