A 'tiny forest' is set to get its grand opening in King George's Playing Fields on Wednesday, February 28.

It's being planted by the Exmouth Tiny Forest group, partnered by East Devon District Council and Parklife.

According to the group, a 'tiny forest' is 'a pocket-sized powerhouse of native woodland trees mimicking a traditional forest in a tiny space where they will grow rapidly. This helps reduce climate change, increase biodiversity and improve local air quality and will be a focal point for children's learning'.

Year two and three pupils from Exeter Road Primary School will help with the planting and will be involved with aftercare.

A range of local volunteers are also helping on the day including some pupils from the Deaf Academy and some residents from Carter Avenue.  The Forest will be monitored and cared for by volunteer 'Tree Keepers'.

The Tiny Forest group say they hope this will be the first of a number of Tiny Forests that will spring up in the area.
