South West Water (SWW) has provided an update on their work to fix a burst sewer pipe in Phear Park.

SWW say that they have 'completed a temporary fix' to the burst rising main in Exmouth following around-the-clock emergency work.

This work was completed due to a burst to the main last week. This required the use of tankers to minimize the environmental impact.

John Halsall, South West Water’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “Firstly, we’re very sorry for the disruption this has caused. It’s been an incredibly challenging situation and we thank local residents for bearing with us. Our teams have worked hard to put a fix in place as quicky as possible and will now focus on permanently replacing the entire rising main to avoid future issues. This is due to be completed by the end of March.”

The water company also added that the 'Environment Agency have been kept fully informed during this work.'

"Regular sampling continues to be carried out to offer reassurance to the local community."
