Property finder Garrington has ranked where the best places are to live in East Devon.

A tool on the Garrington website ranks different places judged on six criteria: natural environment, wellbeing, heritage and culture, schools and employment, house price and the cost of the average family home. It then gives the place an overall rank.

From a list of 1,409 places in the UK, several East Devon towns and villages were mentioned, including Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton and Honiton.

Garrington also published a list of top 20. Twyford in Berkshire ranked at the top, followed by St Albans, Hertfordshire and Epsom, Surrey.

Out of the East Devon towns, Exmouth ranked highest on the overall list at 268th.

Exmouth was ranked 449th for Natural Environment, 199th for well-being, 528th for heritage and 619th for schools and employment.

Budleigh Salterton came in at 625th on the list, but it was ranked second overall for well-being.

Its natural environment was ranked 340th, and it was ranked 1,183rds for schools and employment.

Honiton came in 966th overall. Its natural environment ranking was 666, well-being 339, heritage and culture 956, and schools and employment 890.

Axminster ranked 730th overall.

It was ranked at 184th for natural environment, 549th for wellbeing and 485th for heritage and 1,428th for schools and employment.

Sidmouth ranked 548th, with some very high scores in sub-categories. 

It was ranked third overall for its well-being score, 42nd for natural environment, 636th for heritage and 1429th for schools and employment. 

Finally, Ottery St Mary was ranked 819th, with the following category scores: natural environment 843, wellbeing 312, heritage 423, schools and employment 1,025.
