A new six-week hockey course for young children will start at the Cranford Club in Exmouth on Wednesday, February 21.

It's open to boys and girls at Reception and Year 1 level, and is being run by professional hockey coach Jessica Woods, who runs JAB Hockey.  She is a former Premier League player who has worked in the England Hockey Single System and Player Pathway with all age groups as well as coaching at Futures Cu. She has coached National Age Group Academy players and also worked with the England U18 side.

Jessica grew up in Lympstone and moved away for work, but has since relocated back to the area. She has run her coaching business successfully in Berkshire and Buckinghamshire and is now looking to establish it in the Exmouth area.

She said: "I have a four-year-old daughter who is keen to play hockey but there is no provision in this area for children of that age at an appropriate time.

"During the course they will learn the basics and get a love for the game, and then I’ll be able to direct them either to the junior section of Exeter Hockey Club and/or they can attend further courses and holiday camps that I will run.

"I really feel this is something that children will love and could be very successful."

The course costs £40 per player for all six sessions, which will take place at the Cranford Club from 4pm until 5pm on Wednesdays. Places can be booked by visiting www.jabhockey.co.uk
