Exmouth hairdressers Fades and Shades are offering people 'pay what you can afford' haircuts on January 29.

The cuts will be held between 10am to 2am. You don't need to book in, just walk in and get a haircut and then hand over what you can afford.

The business announced this service in a post on Facebook, which read: "January poses financial challenges for many, so to bring some cheer, we're hosting another 'pay what you can afford' day at the salon on Monday, January 29, from 10am to 2pm. Feel free to drop in for a haircut; we've done this before, and it made a positive impact for many.

"Your well-being matters, and we're here to help. No appointments needed."

Fades and Shades offer men's, women's and children's haircuts at 45 Exeter Road. Owner Nora Nunez set up Fades and Shades in July 2020 and has been part of the community ever since.

She also offered this service during the October half term in 2022, which was highly successful.

She told the Journal at the time: "With the cost of living being so high, Fades & Shades would like to offer the following to help out where we can.

"We discussed the idea with other salons and put a post out on the Facebook groups and the feedback was positive. We will trial this date in October and if it goes well, we will look at setting up some more.

"Haircuts, especially children's, can be so expensive and times at the moment are hard so we hope this helps Exmouth in a small way.

"We love our town and we love what we do and if we all pull together then we can get through this."

During the current cost-of-living crisis, Nora wanted to do something to give back to the community and support local people.
