'Don't forget to return your reusable Exmouth cup', that is the message from Exmouth Town Council after seeing an uptake in missing cups since the scheme launched.

The cup can be picked up from any cafe or restaurant in the town that has signed up for the scheme, but once you have finished your cup, you need to return it and get another one next time you get a coffee in the town.

Zoey Cooper, manager of the scheme said: "There are 2,600 have been distributed and there are currently around 2,000 in participating cafes, which means there are 600 'missing."

You drop off your Exmouth Cups to one of the 25 participating cafes in Exmouth or to the Town Hall for washing and recirculating. Look out for us in the Strand and at Hangtime next Tuesday morning - find out more about the cup scheme and/or leave your #exmouthcup with us too

The cup launched at Exmouth Festival and has now been rolled out across the town.

The Exmouth Cup is free for customers and free for cafés to hand out. The scheme is all part of Exmouth Town Council's plan to reduce climate change in Exmouth.

Zoey Cooper, Climate and Ecological Emergency Resilience Officer at Exmouth Town Council said: "Hangtime, for example, gets through 100,000 single-use cups a year - which mainly go into general waste - we are on a mission to reduce the number of single use cups in Exmouth and make it so that ultimately everyone in Exmouth (visitors and residents alike) use the Exmouth Cup instead.

"The Exmouth Cup scheme will be easy and cost-effective for coffee shops to provide reusable cups. In five years, Exmouth will have so many reusable cups we won’t remember a time when we used disposables. Even the big coffee chains will be on board. In the meantime, we market the scheme to neighbouring towns and districts.

The scheme is part of Exmouth Town Council's pledge to reduce climate change and the amount of single-use plastic that is wasted in the town.
